Inspired by the Summer Solstice celebrations in Latvia, Madara is a romantic shawl that features bobbles that seems to pop up from the knitted fabric like wildflowers in a field.
The natural woolly texture of Le Petit Lambswool from Biches & Bûches is a perfect match for this design and makes for a shawl that is light and airy.
Madara is worked in two parts. First, the main body is knit sideways with regular increases along the right edge until the final depth has been reached, then decreases are worked at the same rate along the right edge to obtain a shallow, symmetrical triangle. Stitches along the increase and decrease line are then picked up and the border is knit with increases along both edges and the center line.
